Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Enjoy the relaxed vibe of this coastal city. Being a "foodie" town, Portsmouth has many cafes, bakeries and restaurants. You can find 17th and 18th century houses along cobblestone side streets. In winter, there is ice skating at the outdoor rink at Strawbery Banke, a re-creation of a colonial setting with costumed re-enactors a short walk from downtown. Explore more streets as you approach the Memorial Bridge on the east side of town and visit Pickwick's Mercantile, Lady Pickwick's, and Fezziwig's Fountain, a collection of historic themed shops and a cafe where costumed staff greet you. Market Square, Congress Street and Pleasant Street have women's clothing boutiques, jewelry stores, a record store and gift shops. With lots of nooks and crannies, downtown Portsmouth is fun to explore for a day trip or weekend visit. Also, it is a great stopover for skiiers, leaf peepers, and vacationers heading home from points farther north. You can shop, grab dinner and view historic architecture while taking in harbor views.
