Block Island, Rhode Island

Block Island, also known as New Shoreham, is a 7 mile long, 3 mile wide island 12 miles off the coast of southeastern Rhode Island accessible by ferry. It is a natural beauty covered by miles of hiking trails that run along meadows, rocky cliffside paths and idyllic beaches with the Atlantic Ocean never far from view. Old Harbor is the main town with the majority of the retail shops, inns, hotels and restaurants. Most are seasonal, summer being the most popular time to visit. The shops are a diverse array of beachwear, apparel, gifts, jewelry, crafts, toys and books, many featuring Block Island themed creations. Locally made yarn, honey, pottery, art work, skin care products and jewelry are unique to the island. Two farmers' markets offer another chance to procure island made items. B&B's, inns and historic Victorian hotels transport you back to simpler times with a focus on relaxation and enjoying expansive water views. B.I. is great for day trips, weekend getaways and summer vacations.
