Historic Concord Has Shops, Treats and Foliage Too

Welcome to Scenic Shopping™. Our Autumn feature town is Concord, Massachusetts. Concord is steeped in history with colonial homes and inns. It has a busy little shopping district with clothing stores, The Bookshop, The Cheese Shop, The Children's Shop, The Famous Concord Shop (renamed Concord Cookware in 2013), and Thoreauly Antiques to name a few. The Toy Shop in the center of town is a fun store with unique toys, not all high priced. It carries fun novelty items that are inexpensive as well as items not found in the chain stores. The Main Streets Market and Cafe is a lively coffee shop with a small bar in the rear. They occasionally have live music. The chowder and chili will warm you up after your visit to the many shops. The desserts, coffee and hot apple cider are just what you need for a tasty snack to invigorate you and get you back out to explore the lovely boutiques and antique shops. The Concord Bookshop and Barrow Bookstore are great stops for book lovers, and the Barefoot Book Studio caters to kids with arts & crafts, storytelling and events. After shopping, you may want to explore the sites of Concord. There are walking tours available for exploring Concord Center and Concord Depot. The Concord Museum and historic graveyards are withing walking distance.


Also, Concord is home to interesting properties a short drive from Concord center. Many of these revolve around the lives of great American writers. Historic sites include the homes of Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau. Walden Pond where Thoreau lived and wrote his American classic, Walden, is a short drive away and has a swimming area that is enjoyed in the warmer months. Minute Man National Historic Park includes the Old North Bridge, site of the first shots fired in the American Revolution.


After sightseeing, have lunch or dinner at the Colonial Inn or Helen's Restaurant. The Colonial Inn is a higher priced restaurant with historic New England ambience while Helen's is a small comfortable restaurant serving more casual meals. Main Streets Market and Cafe has sandwiches as well as pub fare. La Provence has lunch and pastries. Fall is a great time to visit Concord.
